DAMN., is Kendrick Lamar's fourth big studio album, which supposedly was going to be released in April 7th, 2017, once fans heard those lines on his song "The Heart Part 4." However, once the pre-order of the album was available, it became obvious that it was going to release on April 14, 2017, and that it did.
Once the album released, DAMN. was the highest critically acclaimed hip-hop album of the year, having an almost perfect score on reviewing sites such as Metacritic. The 14 tracks that the album has all featured on the Billboard Hot 100, such after a week of being released, with two on the top five, "HUMBLE." in number 1, while "DNA." being on number 4. The album went platinum on May 4th of the same year, making it his third platinum album, and the first one to receive the title on 2017. A year later, it won Rap Albym of the Year at the Grammy Awards held on January 28, 2018.
In addition, one year after the album was released, Lamar won one of the most prestigious awards, which was the Pulitzer Prize for Music, when he won the award, he became the first hip-hop artist to win this award, and the first artist that wasn't a jazz or classical musician. The website for the Pulitzer Prize, described as "a virtuosic song collection unified by its vernacular authenticity and rhythmic dynamism that offers affecting vignettes capturing the complexity of modern African-American life."
The album talks on issues of the struggles of doing the right thing and evil. This idea can be better experienced, once you hear the album in reverse and realize that is the story that Lamar is trying to narrate.
